Poor shaft and carrier bearing quality. \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eSome customers have replaced 1 or 2 shafts just because of carrier bearing and or mount failures. The carrier bearing is very small and they are not sealed from the elements. When it fails it leads to a burned up output shaft and or even worse. The cast mount explodes and takes out the oil pan. Trust me, I know more than one person this has happened to. \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eEither way, the carrier bearing is one of the big issues. A little too much throttle:\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eSome customers always break the rear output shaft, while some just break the drive shaft, or front differential input.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eWe have had customers break the output shaft 4 times and never broke anything else?\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eOther customers have twisted the driveshaft and, or broken the input on the front diff multiple times, but have had no output shaft failures?\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThere is no right or wrong answer here. Each machine is different .\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eKawasaki has 3 weak links in their drivetrain system. The front input shaft at the front differential, the thin driveshaft tube, and weak output shaft and carrier bearing combined. You only need one weak link, so it leads to quality of the parts and cost savings is the overall issue.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eHowever, knowing that we broke the output shaft on our Krawler KRX, there is an issue that needed to be addressed so we went after it. Not wanting to ever have a trail failure, we set out to produce the last shaft you will ever need to buy.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eTo do that, we enlisted the help of Branik Motorsports. The guys at Branik have been making our race axles and shafts for our rock buggies and 700hp desert race cars. These guys know their stuff, so we listened.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eHere is what we came up with:\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cem\u003eStrength:\u003c\/em\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e-Made from 4340 Chromoly. The only shaft material better is 300M steel, which does NOT twist. These shafts need to have twist, so 300M was out.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e-Our shaft is larger than stock where it counts. Some shafts on the market are one large diameter and do not neck down in size. This leaves no area for twist and they will break at the splines. Our shafts are intended to twist multiple times before breaking. 10 times more than 300M steel.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cem\u003eWear:\u003c\/em\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e- Our shaft diameter at the bearing is larger and almost a press on fit. This eliminated the shaft turning inside the bearing.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e-Our shafts are heat treated giving them the best antiwear characteristics possible. This really hardens the area where the bearing rides.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eOur thoughts:\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eYou need a weak link in the drive train system. Something that will break if the system is pushed to hard. A simple trail repair fix, or minor shop fix, but not a blown motor, transmission, or broken oil pan. Something that is inconvenient, but tells you to calm down or back off.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eWe have been testing these shafts since may of 2022. During the ABUSE testing, we blew the shaft in the center of the KRX transmission. The damage was $5800.00 at the dealership and it took 2.5 months to do the job. Everything inside the transmission was ground up and metal went through everything. Even the case had a split on the side. We had to get it home.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eWHY? We had no weak link.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eThe Krawler KRX had our upgraded output shaft, Rhino driveshaft and a Turner chromoly front input shaft. There was no weak link, and we found the weak link to be in the transmission. OUCH, and what a huge mistake. Now we know, and we immediately pulled out the turner input shaft and replaced it with a stock Kawasaki one.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eWHY only the input shaft? A spare input shaft can sit in the glove box. Its small and only requires minimal work to change it out on a trail. An output shaft could break the oil pan, and is so much more involved in changing. Even a driveshaft is a common failure point, but a nightmare of a job to do. The answer was simple for me. Ditch the turner input shaft so the break is up front and easier to change.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eMy advise, if your running 35\" tires, pushing it, or just don't want failures. Do all the upgrades at once. Carrier bearing, output shaft, rhino driveline. It will all be apart anyways. We are not the first on the market with these, and we wont be the last. Our new billet carrier is machined from a block of 6061 billet aluminum and uses a much larger Timken sealed bearing. If it does you will need to phase the u-joints. You can google the term for a better explanation. If you don't have it correct, you will experience horrible driveline vibration, and in most cases have to remove the front differential and drive shaft to get them into phase correctly. It sucks, don't do it. Be slow and methodical.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e1. Loosen and remove pinch bolts on drive shaft yokes at the output shaft area. Note these bolts slide through a channel cut into the output shaft. They must be re-aligned during assembly.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e2. Remove the 4 bolts on the bottom of the front differential to slide it forward. If you have a winch, it will need to be removed. If you have a 4th arm brace, it will need to be removed. \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e3.Slide the differential forward with the compete drive shaft.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e4. Remove the 2 12mm bolts holding the OEM carrier in place.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e5. Pull the shaft from the transmission. It may be tough to remove but it will come out. Sometimes penetrating oil may help. \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e6. Clean the shaft and decide if your shaft has bearing wear or grooving. If it does, stop and order a new shaft or upgrade to our chromoly output shaft.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e6A. If using our chromoly shaft install the new larger seal in the opposite end of the carrier. This end will go forward in the car.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e7. Clean the shaft at the bearing mating surface with some brake cleaner, carb cleaner, acetone or? make sure there is no oil residue. \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e8. Slide the carrier onto the shaft in the correct direction. Don't completely install to the bearing area yet.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e9. Apply grease to both side of the shaft at the splines. A little goes a long way. \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e10. Use the loctite provided between where the bearing will ride and the shaft. A little goes a long way. (please let the loctite set for 24 hours before driving)\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e11. Reinstall front snap ring.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e12. Reinstall the carrier with the 2 factory bolts.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e13. Assemble the rest of the drive shaft and front diff per the beginning of the directions.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e14. Honestly we felt why even look at it.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eWith the new set up we hit 3 bars of belt temps \u003cstrong\u003e\u003cem\u003ewithin 2 miles,\u003c\/em\u003e\u003c\/strong\u003e 6 (MAX) bars once we turned around and headed back to the shop! \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eWe swapped the old primary clutch and secondary clutches back into the KRX to see if that was our issue (180 mile KRX). It was still getting hot. We also went back to the OEM belt and on the same trip, we hit the same temps again. \u003cem\u003eThe only variable that was different was that we had \u003cstrong\u003e\"NO\"\u003c\/strong\u003e primary spring as recommended.\u003c\/em\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eWe put the spring back in and the problem went away immediately. We made the 4 mile round trip with \"NO BARS\" of temperature. \u003cstrong\u003eNONE! \u003c\/strong\u003eAll the heat was caused from running NO primary spring.
